Rachel Micander is a geologist, cartographer, and artist native to Northern California. She has spent the past fourteen years calling Nevada’s Great Basin her home. Between working as a geologist and cartographer and her love of the outdoors, she has explored much of the Great Basin and Eastern Sierra. In her art, she works primarily in gouache on cold-pressed cotton. She focuses mainly on the diverse landscapes of the northern Nevada Great Basin and eastern Sierra Nevada, as well as songbirds native to those regions. She enjoys painting these seldom seen areas in hopes of sharing her love for the outdoors, and to show others that the Great Basin is more than meets the eye.
