What are Giclée Prints?
A giclée print is basically a fine art print produced using a high-quality, high-resolution inkjet printer. In my case, I use a Cannon ImagePROGRAF 300 Series. Giclee printing is ideal for reproducing art with high detail, color, and quality, and is nearly identical to the original work. Giclée prints also use pigmented inks, as opposed to dye-based inks. The prints are archival and printed on an acid-free paper. I use 100% cotton, heavyweight (315gsm/84lb.) cold-press watercolor paper for all of my prints. The cold-press cotton is textured, just as the paper I use is when creating the original painting. The texture makes the prints feel and appear almost identical to the originals.
How are the Originals Reproduced?
The originals, once completed, are either photographed or scanned as a high resolution (1500 dpi) .tif (Tag Image Format) file. Tif formats are also considered archival. They are a museum quality and National Archive Standard file format popular for digital archives, due to their flexibility, high quality, and near-universal compatibility (Oxford Duplication Centre). Once photographed or scanned, the image is compared with the original and color matching completed to ensure accurate reproduction.
